Colorado Summer Tours

Colorado winters are famous for the great skiing in the major resorts of Aspen, Vail and Telluride, but one of the best kept secrets is that the summers in these mountain resorts in Colorado are even better.
The slogan Colorful Colorado is so true, in every direction you get shadowed greens, dry grays, pulsating reds and velveteen purples in 3 dimensional vistas that constantly shift and transform as you move through them.

While the rest of the west is baking in the summer heat, Colorado mountains are enjoying what many consider to be the absolute best weather, with highs in the mid 70’s to lower 80’s, and nighttime temperatures between 55 and 65 degrees, which makes for perfect sleeping. Cloudless blue skies are the norm here, with occasional thunderstorms lighting the high country. As the summer wanes the fall colors are a fantastic sight with aspen and birches in their millions showering the mountains in reds and gold’s.
The absence of allot of the pesky bugs also makes it ideal. I remember fondly the first time I was bit by a Colorado mountain mosquito. I had to look at it twice thinking that it was way too small to be an adult, and the sting was so mild that I almost didn't’t notice it. Compare this to the rest of the US where you have to keep small children inside for fear that the mosquitoes will fly away with the unattended children.

The summertime activities of whitewater rafting, mountain biking, bike tours, hiking, driving tours, fishing, horseback riding and napping are peerless. Wildlife watching is also world class with elk, bear, coyote, fox, beaver, deer, eagles, hawks and hummingbirds being spotted on a regular basis. Colorado sports more gold level trout streams than anywhere else in the world. In August of every year many look skyward for the annual meteor storms that streak the skies with blazing shooting stars.
The best time to be in Colorado is from June until the end of September.
